The landscape is incredibly diverse, ranging from the fertile highlands of West Shewa with its hot springs and crater lakes, to the industrial plains of East Shewa, and the historic mountains of North Shewa. The Awash River flows through East Shewa, while the Omo River originates in the highlands of Shewa.
